Word of the Chapter Advisor: Service

As a past officer of the House Corporation, Chairman of the Theta Epsilon Alumni Association, and as Chapter Advisor, service to the fraternity has been a rewarding experience that has continued long past graduation. I am not alone in this service, as more Theta Epsilon Delts join the ranks of chapter advisors, division vice-presidents, and alumni chapter officers each year.

Nor is our service to the Fraternity limited to these activities. Many chapter alumni contribute generously to the Theta Epsilon Leadership Development Fund each fall. Others remain involved by increasing the attendance at our fall and spring alumni weekends. I chose service as the subject of this semester’s article not to boast, but to ask local Theta Epsilon alumni to renew their commitment to the chapter.

The Theta Epsilon Alumni Association was created four years ago in response to criticism of the frequency, quality, and consistency of alumni programming. Since its inception, a handful of committed alumni have worked towards that goal and have seen marked improvements. However, the need for new leadership is great and this fall so few brothers attended the TEAA annual meeting that all officers (myself included) were forced to serve an additional semester. Therefore, I am calling for annual elections to be held at the April alumni weekend in the hopes that the torch may be past and the current officers (who all serve as chapter advisors) may focus their energy on different tasks.
